Hey makers! Have you ever wanted to create your own video game? The Studio team at the Long Beach Public Library will help you level up your creative skills in our virtual workshop series for teens, Make.Create.Design: Video Games.Learn about the many different elements of game development: Game Design &amp; Narrative, Game Programming, Visual Art for Games, and Game Audio &amp; Music. Use these skills to develop your own game prototype.This free workshop is open to 7th through 12th graders of all experience levels, N00Bs and Pros are welcome!Update: Due to the high level of interest in this workshop series, we will be giving priority to current LBPL cardholders/Long Beach residents. All existing reservations will be honored, but new registrations outside of the Long Beach area will be placed on the waitlist for this event.

<h2>Workshops + Open Lab Sessions</h2><ul><li>Each week of Make.Create.Design: Video Games consists of one workshop and one Open Lab session.</li><li>Workshops will take place on Tuesdays from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, and Open Lab sessions on Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.</li><li>Open Lab sessions will give you the opportunity to work on your game, ask questions, and chat with professionals in the video game industry.</li><li>All sessions of Make.Create.Design: Video Games will be hosted on Zoom. Participants will receive a link to join via email the morning of the first event (Tues. June 30th).</li><li>Attending all the workshops and Open Lab sessions is encouraged, but not required.</li></ul>Week 1: Welcome WeekWorkshop - Tues. June 30th, 2:00-4:00 PMOpen Lab - Thurs. July 2nd, 2:00-4:00 PMWelcome to Make.Create.Design: Video Games! To kick things off, we’ll go over everything you’re going to build this summer. You’ll get you the chance to meet your fellow developers and choose to form a team or fly solo. We’ll talk about our favorite games, and get ready to dig into game development!Week 2: Game Design + NarrativeWorkshop - Tues. July 7th, 2:00-4:00 PMOpen Lab - Thurs. July 9th, 2:00-4:00 PMWhen it comes to video games, there's room for all kinds of stories. The game narrative workshop will help you refine the vision for your game and create an outline that will guide you through the rest of the game development process. Come learn with the Studio as we dream big, plan small, and learn how to turn your ideas into games!Week 3: Game ProgrammingWorkshop - Tues. July 14th, 2:00-4:00 PMOpen Lab - Thurs. July 16th, 2:00-4:00 PMHow will you make your game playable? In this workshop, we'll create a prototype of your game using fundamental programming concepts and the game making tool Construct 3. You'll learn how break things down into individual features, create controls, add behaviors, and more!Week 4: Visual Art for GamesWorkshop - Tues. July 21st, 2:00-4:00 PMOpen Lab - Thurs. July 23rd, 2:00-4:00 PMTransform your game ideas into visual reality! In the Visual Art for Games workshop we’ll teach you video game art fundamentals and how to translate your ideas into visual graphics. Don’t feel like an artist? Don’t worry, we’ll give you the tools, techniques, and resources to make your vision take form.Week 5: Game Audio + MusicWorkshop - Tues. July 28th, 2:00-4:00 PMOpen Lab - Thurs. July 30th, 2:00-4:00 PMReady to give your game some dimension? Learn how to bring your game to life with a lesson on creating music to set the mood of your game. This workshop will cover the basics of BeepBox, a web-based music making program, along with how to code sound into your game.Week 6: Wrap-up WeekWorkshop - Tues. Aug. 4th, 2:00-4:00 PMOpen Lab - Thurs. Aug. 6th, 2:00-4:00 PMIt’s game jam week! You’ll have the chance to show off your game, playtest for your peers, tie up loose ends and plan for the future with an entire week of open workshop and Q&amp;A with the whole Studio team.
