About this event
- 3 hours
Enjoy a creative afternoon with a friend, partner, sibling or co-worker. Relax, take a deep breath and enjoy the process of turning a slab of clay into a functional piece of art that you can use everyday. Whether you're an advanced potter or you've never touched clay in your life... this class is for you!
You'll be creating a customized mug in a small group setting and making a lid to match in order to keep the bugs out of your drink! You'll get to choose the texture/design in your clay from several different printed rolling pins and texture mats, as well as the glaze color to match your style. There is also an option to use alphabet stamps to add a poem, quote or names into your clay!
You will be learning how to create this using a hand-building technique that does not require a potters wheel.
Check out the FAQ section for more details and to view the refund/cancellation policy prior to registering.
This workshop is geared for teens and adults. Anyone ages 13-17 must come with an adult 18+ who is also registered for the event. I'm looking forward to offering workshops for children in the near future.
Frequently asked questions
3 hour workshop in an intimate group setting. Clay and glaze is provided as well as the use of any tools you may need to create your piece.
Pottery takes time to dry. If the drying is rushed, your creation is likely to crack. So special care is taken to allow it to dry slowly, then fired in the kiln, sanded, glazed and then fired in the kiln again. I will contact you as soon as your piece is ready for pickup. It takes approx 3-4weeks.
One sure thing about ceramics is that we can't get attached to our pieces. They sometimes break and have to be recreated. I will do my best to handle your piece with great care. In the rare case that it breaks or cracks, I will work with you to find another time to recreate it.
You'll be working with raw clay and water so it is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Feel free to bring an apron. Please note that in the warm summer months, a fan cannot be ran in the studio for safety reasons, so please dress appropriately.
There are plenty of tools here to create texture in your clay to customize your piece. However, if you have lace or a doily that is special and you'd like to press it into clay, feel free to bring it along. It will get dirty! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.
You will choose from several rolling pin designs to put texture into a pre-rolled slab of clay, cut the pieces out, form your piece and choose the glaze color. I will carefully watch it throughout the drying and firing processes, sand it and glaze it.
The workshop will be held in Clarence Center, New York in my home studio. The full address will be given upon registration.
