In this hands-on woodworking class, you’ll design and create a custom sign using Rockler’s Interlock Comic Sans Signmaking Templates. Starting with a precut plywood blank, you’ll learn how to lay out lettering, rout clean letterforms with a plunge router, and finish your sign with optional painted details and smooth edges. The finished sign will measure approximately 12" x 24" x ¾"—perfect for a shop, home, or gift.

What You’ll Do:

• Plan your custom sign message and lay out interlocking template letters

• Rout lettering using Rockler’s Interlock Comic Sans Signmaking Template and a plunge router

• Remove templates and choose whether to paint the lettering using Milk Paint and Mixol dye pigments

• Learn about other available Interlock template styles, including State Park, Script, Shapes, and Emoji templates

• Chamfer the edges of your sign for a finished look

• Rout a keyhole slot on the back using Rockler’s Keyhole Template and a plunge router

• Finish sand all surfaces for a smooth, ready-to-display sign

• Apply a basic oil or wax finish to protect and enhance the sign

• Use of Rockler signmaking template, routers, and sanding tools

• Milk Paint and Mixol dye pigments (basic color selection)

• Use of Rockler tools, equipment, and jigs

• Use of Rockler safety gear

Important Info:

• Class is beginner-friendly — no prior signmaking experience required

• Painting the lettering is optional

• Paint requires approximately 30 minutes of dry time – instructor will provide details on all other Rockler Interlock Signmaking Templates during the wait time.

• Each attendee takes home their completed custom sign
