Make a Basket!
Start to finish, you'll learn to build a basket using wildly harvested vines. Materials, instruction & a meal are included. It will be fun!
Come learn to weave a basket. All levels welcome. Some hand strength needed. If you're new to weaving, it's worth experimenting to discover if you like working with the materials.
Instructor is Alexandria Bozeman, artist and gardener, leader of Creative Unfolding Retreats. She has been practicing this particular basket weaving tehnique for a few years and offers custom built baskets by request.
~
Location will be the unique & beautiful Yoga Barn, located in Ruston, Louisiana. The property is secluded and surrounded by trees. Our class will meet in the Barn (where yoga classes and events are generally held).
We will begin at 9am and weave until approx 5pm. (Yes, this amount of time is required to build your full basket!) Once you get going, time flies.
Topics covered:
- Harvesting kudzu, wisteria, & kudzu
- Preparing your materials
- Hoop building
- God's eye lashing
- Ribs
- Weaving pattern*
- Being kind to yourself
*I was taught by Nancy Basket to weave in this style, so I am offering the same technique in a good way to all those interested.
Lunch included! We will break at 12 noon for a meal. Expect a delicious homemade broccoli soup, an abundant amount of sourdough bread baked by the local Rolling Hills Coffeeshop, fresh salad, and other tasty options. Vegetarian friendly. (If you need to run home to check on a dog or anything else, this would be your opportunity to do so. We will start back up at 1:30pm)
Kids of all ages are welcome, but know that hands-on childcare will be up to you. For children wanting to weave, age 12(ish) is recommended, since the technique is somewhat complicated and a prolonged attention span will be needed. Use your own good judgement!
Class will be capped at 10 students.
