So you want to write a magic system, huh? That's great news! Magic, in my opinion, can make any story better. But let's be honest, actually building a magic system can be overwhelming, complicated, and nerve-wracking. The last thing we want is to build a system that damages our story more than it enhnaces it.

Don't panic, because you can do this.

I've developed a seven stage process to design and build ANY kind of magic system to work with ANY story. I've taught hundreds of authors how build the magic system their story needs.

What We'll Cover

Over the course of this six-hour workshop, we will cover foundational concepts used to build magic systems, explore each of the seven stages in depth, and hours of hands-on exercises to build YOUR system for YOUR story.

When Is It?

This workshop will take place over two subsequent Saturdays. We will meet Saturday May 2nd from 10 AM - 1 PM Pacific time and again on Saturday May 9th from 10 AM - 1 PM Pacific time.

You Will Leave With

• Progress toward the perfect system for your story
• The tools you need to complete your magic system
• Exercises and a framework you can repeatedly use for any system and any story

Event Agenda

Day 1 (Saturday May 2nd)

• Introduction: in this segment we will discuss the class format, timeline, and the foundational information you will need to move forward. We will briefly cover the 7-Stages in this segment before covering each in depth throughout the rest of the course
• Stage 1: short lecture, ~30 minutes of exercises to find the core of your system and a 5 min Q&A for stage 1.
• Stage 2: short lecture, ~15 minutes of brainstorming exercises and a 5 min Q&A for stage 2.
• Stage 3: short lecture, 30-40 minutes of exercises making sure your system meets the needs of your story, and a 5 min Q&A for stage 3.
• Stage 4: short lecture, 25-35 minutes of exercises building out and defining your system, and a 5 min Q&A for stage 4.

Day 2 (Saturday May 9th)

• Stage 5: short lecture, 20-25 minutes spent stress testing your system and story, and a 5 min Q&A for stage 5
• Stage 6: short lecture, 20-25 minutes of exercises building restrictions for your system
• Stage 7: short lecture on how to polish, edit, and finish your system.
• Open Work Time: whatever time remains will be spent with everyone working freely on their systems, asking me questions, and getting my help where they're stuck.
