Violette Kee-Tui’s Magic and Masala, a prequel to her debut novel, Mulberry Dreams, is a multi-generational novel tracing the lives of Sharifa and her two sons as they travel from the Cape of Good Hope, at the southern-most tip of Africa, to what was once known as Rhodesia.

About the Author

Violette Kee-Tui was born in Zimbabwe, southern Africa, to Iranian parents. She studied journalism at the London School of Journalism and has worked in print media most of her adult life, winning several national journalism awards, including Feature Writer. Violette began her creative writing career in 2013 when she entered a national short writing contest. She would win third, second and, ultimately, first place over three consecutive years. Her debut novel, Mulberry Dreams, launched in 2021, won not only critical acclaim but was nominated for an award in the National Arts Awards. She followed it up with Magic and Masala in 2023, winning Best Novel in the National Arts Awards.
