Macro Typography

Based in San Francisco, Letterform Archive is a nonprofit center for inspiration, education, and community, with a collection of over 100,000  items related to lettering, typography, calligraphy, and graphic design. The Archive hosts and presents a variety of events related to letterforms, including public lectures and workshops as part of its Type West education program.

Spend four evenings building confidence in typography at the page level, including type selection, hierarchy, grids and layout.

One of the most important work tools within graphic design is typographic management. Aimed at professionals and students who want to expand and improve the quality of their work, this course will exemplify and put into practice typesetting exercises in different media, and raise our awareness of space, grid, hierarchy, text boxes, and paragraph arrangement and design, with a focus on readability. Mónica Munguía is a type designer and graphic designer based in Mexico. She holds a Master’s Degree in Typographic Design from the Gestalt Studies Center. She is co-author of the book “Elementype, a practical guide to typographic use”, and founded Momutype Foundry and Studio, where she produces custom and retail fonts. Mónica was the first woman in México to work with an international foundry and be part of the TypeThursday Mexico City team as Dialogue Lead. Her interest in advancing typography has earned her the PADID and FONCA scholarship for the National Center for the Arts and the Secretary of Culture of Mexico.

<a href="http://www.rebecaanaya.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rebeca Anaya</a> is a graphic designer and lettering artist based in northern Mexico. Her work focuses on lettering, typography-inspired branding, and editorial design. Some of the projects in which she has collaborated have been featured in publications such as Destination México by Moma, The Dublin Web Summit, and the International design award a! Diseño. Rebeca specialized as a type designer in Cooper Union’s Type@Cooper program, after which she founded TypeBasics, a project that aims to bring typography knowledge to non-typography designers. As a freelancer, Rebeca has collaborated with brands such as Slack, The Washington Post, El Heraldo de México, and Artsynonym.
