To Brian Bounds, the ocean is a place not to be feared but a place to find answers; it is a sacred space. Below the surface, marine life is a secret society with its own rituals, languages, and lessons passed from mother to child. Marine animals are uniquely clever and resourceful, inveterate problem solvers, with traits we praise as singularly human.
With this collection of paintings, Bounds pays tribute to the divinity of the ocean and its inhabitants.
Bounds received his BFA in Fine Art from the University of Arizona. He is the founder of Devil's Teeth Ocean Project which raises money for organizations that protect and restore our oceans and coastlines. He lives and works in Burlingame.
