Please join the Civil Rights & Restorative Justice Project and the Africana Studies Program at Northeastern University for a conference on reparations for the descendants of lynching victims.  The conference brings together descendant families with longstanding leaders of US reparations movements, racial justice activists, and scholars to discuss avenues for compensatory reparations and other forms of individual and community repair.

We’ll explore fundamental questions at the heart of a successful case for reparations: (1) why reparations for lynching; (2) what modes of redress; and (3) from whom should descendants and the communities they represent seek reparations?

A closed session in the afternoon will consider strategies for the launch of such an initiative.

Ta-Nehisi Coates, Angela Y. Davis, Congressperson Sheila Jackson Lee and Dread Scott will address the gathering.

Additional speakers include Margaret Burnham, Ron Daniels, William “Sandy” Darity, Quanda Johnson, Maxine Jones, Evan Lewis, Joey Mogul, Thomas Moore, Sheila Moss, Ángel Nieves, Nkechi Taifa, and Annie Whitlock.
