Speaker: Ashley Webb, Curator of Collections & Exhibitions, Historical Society of Western Virginia
Subject: Mary Johnston, Lucy Addison, Martha Anne Woodrum, Virginia Lee, Lucinda Terry – these are recognizable Southwest Virginia names to some, but why? Discover more about the lives of ten Roanoke women, highlighting their contributions to the fields of women’s rights, education, medicine, literature, aviation, and the arts, influencing lives locally, nationally, and internationally.
Bio: Ashley received her BA in History and Anthropology from Longwood University, Farmville, and her MA in Museum Studies from Bournemouth University, UK. She works with several local museums as a museum collections specialist in addition to her work at the Historical Society, including the Taubman Museum of Art, the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech, the Salem Museum, and the Harrison Museum of African American Culture. Her specialty is fashion history, and she owns Bustle Textiles – a historic dress preservation company, and an online vintage store.
