Join Mom Crew and BabyChildTeen@NYU for a workshop on STEM learning in young children.

<a href="https://www.mymomcrew.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mom Crew</a> is partnering with NYU’s <a href="https://wp.nyu.edu/babychildnyu" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">BabyChildTeen</a> research cohort of accomplished PhDs and professors for a monthly Lunch and Learn series. In January, Dr. Moira Dillon will lead a talk on STEM learning in young children. This workshop will highlight some of the cognitive foundations of STEM learning present from infancy across human cultures. While such foundations have mostly been measured in laboratory settings, this workshop will show how these same abilities have been engaged in school settings to facilitate formal math learning in the preschool and primary school years. It will discuss ways in which young children might build a foundation for learning math and science in school best through early and frequent social interactions that exercise their existing numerical, spatial, and physical intuitions.There will be time for some questions at the end. Early bird tickets are on sale through 12/31/2020 for $10 and regular tickets will be available after that for $15 until 1 hour before the event.

About Dr. Moira DillonDr. Moira Dillon is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Director of a research lab for infants and children at NYU called the <a href="https://www.labdevelopingmind.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lab for the Developing Mind</a>. Dr. Dillon received her B.A. from Yale University and her A.M. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. Her area of expertise is infant and child cognitive development. In her research, she asks: What do infants know about people, objects, and places even before they start talking? How do young children use pictures and language to think more abstractly? How can parents and teachers foster in their children school-readiness in STEM?

<a href="https://wp.nyu.edu/babychildnyu" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">BabyChildTeen@NYU</a> is a collection of developmental research labs at the Washington Square campus of New York University. We study how kids develop and grow over time, and we want our research to be accessible to families all over New York City. We encourage you to sign up to participate in online research studies, which are available for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. They’re a great way to engage your children, and you'll have the opportunity to speak to developmental psychologists about any questions you may have regarding child development.
