The Peale Center for Baltimore History and Architecture, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is restoring the oldest museum building in the United States in partnership with the City of Baltimore. Through its programs, the Peale Center will illuminate the authentic stories of Baltimore's people and places while reinventing the urban museum in the creative and innovative spirit of its founder, artist Rembrandt Peale.

In this workshop, participants will build two cameras: a Lumenbox camera and a Solargraphy camera, like the ones Chris used to create his artworks in the SPARK: New Light exhibition, and load them with light-sensitive material.Lumenbox and Solargraphy photography allows the photographer to record an image over an extreme duration of time. In Lumenbox photography a small lens focuses the light on a tiny circle of paper that is exposed for as little as 20 minutes or up to a few weeks. With Solargraphy, a pinhole is used and the path or movement of the sun can be recorded for a week, month, or even a year. These techniques don’t require a darkroom or any chemicals. A phone camera or scanner is used to reverse the negative image into a positive for sharing or printing.There will be two sessions of this workshop; sign-up to reserve a spot. Each session is limited to 12 participants and is suitable for adults and teenagers.SPARK programming is presented by Towson University and UMBC in partnership with PNC Bank.AccessibilityWheelchair and Physical Building Access / The Peale has a brand new elevator! The new accessible entrance is on the left side of the building, down Watchouse alley about 100 ft. There is a keypad on the right side of the elevator door. Press the button to call the elevator. There is a door that will swing open automatically once the elevator is called so stand back. Once the door is open you can enter the elevator portico and then step/roll/dance into the elevator. When you come out of the elevator you will be in a short hallway by the bathrooms and the lobby and welcome desk is on the right. There are three floors in the Peale there is a handrail on all flights of stairs. Various and ample forms of seating is available in every room.The historic entrance has five steps and no functioning handrail.Parking / There is a temporary drop off spot in the “no parking” zone directly in front of the Holiday St. entrance. There are multiple public paid parking lots within a two block radius of The Peale as well as street parking.
