Lucy Kaplansky is an acclaimed American folk musician and "troubadour laureate of modern city folk" known for her crystalline vocals and emotionally intelligent songwriting. After emerging from the 1980s Greenwich Village folk scene alongside artists like Shawn Colvin and Suzanne Vega, she famously detoured from music for a decade to earn a PhD in clinical psychology and open a private practice. She eventually returned to her musical roots, releasing a string of critically praised albums on Red House Records—including the label's all-time bestseller, Ten Year Night—and forming the influential folk supergroup Cry Cry Cry with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell. Now a seasoned veteran of the genre Kaplansky continues to tour and release deeply personal records, such as 2022's Last Days of Summer, which blend her unique psychological insights with timeless folk traditions.
