Overview

A live video and sound collage performance that explores the deconstructing and reimagining of memories.

Problem Library and Seippelabel produce a night of live video and sound performances. This event marks Seippelabel's cofounder, Michele Seippel's first solo exhibit of an ongoing work series exploring nostalgic recontextualisations through multiple mediums.

Michele Seippel is a current graduate music student studying Electronic Music and Recording Media at Mills College in Oakland, CA. She earned her BFA in Kinetic Imaging and Minor in Painting Printmaking and New Genres from Virginia Commonwealth University where she studied animation, sound and video performance.

Michele uses sculpture, open sound control protocol, live sound, responsive video techniques and projection mapping to insight the viewer’s own re-envisioned past.

“I strongly believe the intersection of mediums is the foundation of my work. In order for mediums to intersect, they must have a common thread. For myself, that thread is time. My work is comprised of captured personal moments using field recordings, voicemails, and video footage, while manipulating them in real-time. The use of Max MSP, open sound control, audio synthesis, motion controllers, looping and audio analysis helps to create an ephemeral experience for the audience. My process of layering and blurring both imagery and soundscapes should hopefully provoke the audience to reminisce about fleeting memories that often escape our consciousness.” -Michele Seippel
