Long Stitch Binding Workshop

EditionsSeattle, WA
Saturday, Mar 28 from 10 am to 6 pm
Overview

Learn a rustic exposed-stitching bookbinding technique

Immerse yourself in the art of long stitch binding during this intensive full-day workshop! You'll learn this beautiful technique where thread becomes a striking design element, creating a flexible binding that showcases your stitching as part of the book's aesthetic.

Long stitch is a versatile structure that works beautifully for journals, sketchbooks, guest books, or artist editions.

What You'll Learn:

  • Long stitch binding variations
  • Hole spacing and measurement for clean results
  • How to design your own decorative stitch patterns and their effects

What You'll Make: One hardcover long stitch bound book (approximately 6" x 8", 288 pages) featuring your chosen stitch pattern. Select from our collection of cover materials (various leathers and kraftex) and thread colors to create a piece that's uniquely yours.

What's Included: All materials including cover material, text papers, waxed linen thread in multiple colors, needles, and awls. Expert instruction throughout the day with individualized guidance.

Perfect For: Book artists ready to expand their binding repertoire, sewers and fiber artists drawn to book structures, journal makers wanting distinctive handmade books, or anyone who appreciates visible craftsmanship.

Note: This intensive format allows for deeper skill development and individual attention. Class size limited to 4 participants for maximum hands-on guidance and troubleshooting.

Wear comfortable clothes. Bring lunch or plan to grab food nearby during our break.
