Latino Outdoors CT is partnering with Joshua's Trust to host a guided hike where we'll be observing migratory birds with binoculars!

We will be hiking the Two Sisters Preserve main loop in Chaplin, CT with guidance from Erin King a wildlife biologist and trustee with Joshua's Trust (bio below). This hike will be approximately 1 mile long with 150 ft elevation gain and is considered family friendly, please bring the whole familia! Parking will be available on the shoulder of Route 6 at N 41° 45.447' W 72° 08.785', near the trailhead. We will learn about migratory birds in the area as well as our local birds. Limited binoculars will be available to borrow during the hike, first come first serve! We will have light snacks and water at the end of the hike.

Accessibility information: Expect to trek on packed earth/dirt and rocks.

Things to keep in mind:

  • The tour will be entirely outdoors, we recommend you wear layers!
  • We will have bug spray and sunblock if you forget yours.
  • Carpooling is encouraged.
  • RSVP is required as we want to ensure a safe and attentive leader to participant ratio.
  • Participation will require completion of our waiver prior to the start of the event.

Erin King is currently a biologist with the US Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Tolland, CT. In this capacity, she advises private landowners on how to best manage their lands for wildlife. Prior to her employment with NRCS, Erin worked as a wildlife biologist for the US Fish and Wildlife Service for 15 years. She has a B.A. in geology from Colgate University and an M.S. in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology from the University of Connecticut. In her free time, she enjoys birding, hiking, running, playing pickleball, and practicing yoga.

Erin King es bióloga del Servicio de Conservación de Recursos Naturales (NRCS en ingles) del Departamento de Agricultura de EE. UU. en Tolland, CT. En esta capacidad, asesora a propietarios privados sobre cómo gestionar mejor sus tierras para la vida silvestre. Antes de trabajar en NRCS, Erin trabajó como bióloga de vida silvestre para el Servicio de Pesca y Vida Silvestre de EE. UU. durante 15 años.
