About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

The institutions of American law are facing a crisis of confidence. Popular distrust for the courts, the separation of powers, and rule of law itself today threatens to swamp this core pillar of American democracy.

There is perhaps no sharper observer of the broader forces driving these trends than Robert Kagan, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and columnist for The Washington Post. His new book, "Rebellion," traces the historical roots of this moment and identifies potential strategies for confronting the threat.

What: Book Talk with Robert Kagan
When: Tuesday, June 4 at 6 pm ET
Where: National Union Building, 918 F Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20004

We will discuss Kagan's argument that, "although this crisis seems unprecedented, the struggle that is tearing the nation apart today is as old as the republic." We will examine the different forms of what he calls "anti-liberalism," and how they have developed throughout history. And we will address its impact on America's legal institutions, as well as what can be done about it.

Tickets are very limited, so we encourage you to register for the event as soon as possible. Kagan will speak with host Peter Keisler, former acting Attorney General of the United States and Advisory Council Member of the Society for the Rule of Law.

Organized by

The Society for the Rule of Law is the premier conservative legal organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the rule of law in America today. Originally formed in 2018, it is made up of traditionally conservative lawyers and jurists, many of whom have served at the highest levels of previous Republican administrations, and who are alarmed by the state of today’s conservative legal movement.
