In partnership with Creative Colloquy, Blue Cactus Press, and Parkland Quickprint, LitFest is the kick-off event for Poetry in the Gardens (formerly the Winter Garden Poetry Series) at Lakewold Gardens. From February 3rd through 5th, LitFest celebrates the South Sound literary arts community by showcasing established and emerging storytellers and poets from across the region. 10 Winners of the Poetry in the Gardens contest will read their poetry selections which will be featured throughout the garden grounds as an interactive experience through Spring and Summer.Come to the soft opening of LitFest on Friday afternoon to buy signed copies of works by our featured authors and stick around for a reading and Q&A session with them afterwards. On Saturday and Sunday sign up for a storytelling or poetry writing workshop in the morning before more book signings and readings in the afternoon. The 10 winning Garden Poets will read their poetry at the beginning of an evening open-mic session which will close each day.S﻿aturday Workshop | 10:00 AM - 11:30 AMReclaiming Our Stories: a writing workshop on (re)writing personal narratives to self-empower and actualize writers<ul><li>Join Blue Cactus Press publisher and poet Christina Vega for a generative writing workshop on reclaiming personal narrative as a tool for self-empowerment and actualization. Participants will have opportunities to explore written and verbal accounts of ancestral, cultural, and land-based narratives rooted in lived experiences; practice using workshop tools to examine, name and uproot harmful biases embedded within those narratives; and draft new stories/narratives that lead to personal empowerment and self-actualization. Workshop tools include storytelling (written &amp; verbal), drafting, intuitive inquiry, and reflection.</li></ul>Sunday Workshop | 10:00 AM - 11:30 AMShort Story Starters: Connect with your readers by connecting with yourself<ul><li>Quickly capture your audience and bring depth to stories with simple techniques. Explore paths for creative writing and cultivate fertile ground for new work by using your senses and memories. Class participants will have the opportunity for hands-on exercises and should expect to leave with fresh material ready for further development. This workshop is applicable to all genres and appropriate for writers of all experience levels. Please bring your own writing implements.</li></ul>Sign up for a workshop, engage with creators, and share your work at the evening open-mic.
