About this event

  • 2 hours

Tompkins Corners Cultural Center will welcome Lisa Gutkin and Christina Crowder to our stage. With Lisa on fiddle, tenor guitar, and voice, accompanied by Christina on accordion and banjo, they will take us on a whimsical wander through tunes with humorous touring stories.

Lisa Gutkin is widely recognized as a violinist and vocalist for the GRAMMY award-winning, groundbreaking Jewish Roots band, the Klezmatics, and as fiddler for the Downtown Celtic band Whirligig. Lisa is also known for her scoring, performance, and music direction in the two-time Tony Award-winning play Indecent. Lisa's song, “Gonna Get Through This World,” with words by Woody Guthrie, was hailed by Pete Seeger as “a piece of genius.” Lisa’s playing and stories are fun and poignant, and her voice has been praised by the LA Times as “hauntingly emotional.”

Christina Crowder has been performing and researching Jewish music for over twenty years. She began in Budapest, Hungary, in 1993 and continued with a Fulbright grant to Romania to document Jewish music in 1999. Since 2002, she has had an active research, teaching, and performing career in the US. Christina also performs with the renowned klezmer clarinetist Margot Leverett.

Lisa and Christina bring a wealth of experience and talent to our stage, promising a delightful evening filled with music, stories, and humor. We are thrilled to have them performing together for us!
