Webinar Description: In 2000, the National Reading Panel identified five key skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension as needed to become a good reader. While word recognition, fluency, and vocabulary are essential, they do not guarantee reading success. Language comprehension comprises several critical components that aid the complex multifaceted processes required for text comprehension. This session will explore the links between knowledge and metacognitive skills in developing language and reading comprehension. We will discuss teaching strategies and suggestions on engaging parents to support student comprehension further. Webinar Presenter: Sue Voit, M.Ed. is a Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).
