Library Carpentry (archivists' and records managers' day)

Description
Library Carpentry is an initiative that seeks to introduce librarians to the fundamentals of computing and to provide them with a platform for further self-directed learning. This event however, is specifically aimed at archivists and records managers who are interested in developing their own IT and software skills, and participants will be asked to contribute their thoughts on how such training might be further developed to meet their particular needs.
The programme will be as follows:
10:00 - 12:00: Introduction to Data including the use of regular expressions to search and update text
12:00 - 12:45: Lunch
12:45 - 15:00: Introduction to Unix Shell - use of a Unix-style command line interface that allows you to work efficiently to find and manipulate data
15:00 - 16:00 : Next steps
Lunch will not be provided, but refreshments will be available during the morning and afternoon workshops.
No prior knowledge is required for this course, but participants will need to bring along their own laptops. In advance, Windows users will need to install https://git-for-windows.github.io/ and all users will need to download and unzip the shell-lesson.zip from https://drjwbaker.github.io/archives-shell/setup/
