Library 2.017: Makerspaces

Welcome to the Learning Revolution.The Learning Revolution Project holds online and physical learning events, and highlights professional development opportunities from a network of 200 partners in the learning professions. The great majority of these events are free to attend.We also highlight good conversations about learning taking place between educators, learners, leaders, and others from the school, library, museum, work, adult, online, non-traditional and home learning worlds. The technologies of the Internet and the Web are reshaping when, where, and from whom we learn--and even how we think about learning. As the boundaries of these learning worlds increasingly overlap, we believe these conversations will be critical to framing and preparing for the learning revolution starting to take place.

<P>We're excited to announce our third Library 2.017 mini-conferences: <STRONG>"Makerspaces,"</STRONG> which will be held online (and for free) on Wednesay, October 11th, from <A HREF="https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Library+2.017&iso=20170601T12&p1=283&ah=3" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">12:00 - 3:00 pm US-Pacific Daylight Time</A> (click for your own time zone).<BR><BR>You can attend the mini-conference live or you can watch the recordings at any time afterwards. When you register, we'll also send you a bonus<STRONG> "Library Makerspaces" Resource Pack</STRONG>, and you'll receive an exclusive invitation to a 90-minute pre-conference event hosted by the team from the <STRONG>Fayetteville Free Library: "STEAM and Making at the FFL."</STRONG> Plus, we'll be using BadgeList.com so that you can receive digital credentials for attending and participating!</P>
<P>This mini-conference on libraries and makerspaces is being organized in partnership with <STRONG>Heather Moorefield-Lang</STRONG>, who will serve as moderator for the opening panel and as the closing keynote speaker: <EM>"There has been a lot of talk about makerspaces in libraries over the past four years. If you are unsure what makerspaces are, think of them as creative locations for tinkering, collaborating, problem solving, and creating in a library or educational space. No matter how many maker learning spaces you may visit, you will quickly notice no two are the same. Each librarian and makerspace delivers their own brand of service to their individual community. Attendees will investigate how librarians with makerspaces can create new partnerships and collaborative efforts in and with their communities, offering further services and methods to meet patron needs."</EM></P>
<P>Joining Heather for the opening hour will be: <STRONG>Dr. June Abbas, PhD</STRONG>, a Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) at the University of Oklahoma, Norman campus; <STRONG>Leanne Bowler</STRONG>, Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh; <STRONG>Kristin Fontichiaro</STRONG>, clinical associate professor at the University of Michigan School Information; <STRONG>Kyungwon Koh</STRONG>, assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma School of Library and Information Studies.</P>
