Libraries & Tech For Good.
Date and time
Description
This is a special edition of Tech For Good meetup, where we'll be looking at the role of libraries as public institutions. What role do they play? What do libraries represent? Why are they important and who are they important for? How do we imagine them in the future? And where does digital and technology fit in?
Speakers include:
Kathy Settle, Chief Executive of the Libraries Taskforce, will talk about the work the Taskforce is doing. The Taskforce was set up by DCMS in 2015 to enable libraries in England to exploit their potential and be recognised as a vital resource for all.
Alison Macrina, Founder of the Library Freedom Project will talk about their partnership with librarians, technologists, attorneys, and privacy advocates which aims to address the problems of surveillance by making real the promise of intellectual freedom in libraries. This is a great blog post to read in advance.
George Oates is the Director of Good, Form & Spectacle and will talk about their month of digital prototyping with the Wellcome Library with What's In The Library.
Alice Corble, PhD student at Goldsmith's who will talk about her research on the value of libraries in people's every day lives.
There will be short talks starting at 7pm and then a panel with Q& A.
