TOPIC

Trauma and Intersectionality in LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Neurodivergent, and First-Generation Americans

Trauma effects each of us differently. But, those with multiple marginalizing identities — i.e. LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Neurodivergent, and 1st-generation Americans (with recent BIPOC immigrant parents) — face:

  • higher levels of stress,
  • greater external and internal barriers in access to care,
  • increased risk of chronic mental health issues,
  • poorer mental health outcomes

Learn about Minority Stress Theory, the intersectionality of historically oppressed identities, and how trauma just impacts these folks differently. Also included: Best practices / recommendations for therapists / other mental health practitioners for working affirmatively with this clientele in a therapeutic setting.
