Overview

Letterland's new Kindergarten (2nd Edition) curriculum was released in 2023 and introduces teaching strategies for building phonological awareness, letter sound correspondence and blending & segmenting skills.

What does the training include?

The primary emphasis for Kindergarten Initial is on whole group instruction, but also includes how to implement small group and intervention strands in the classroom.

Instructional Objectives

• Expand phonological and phonemic awareness.
• Learn letter sounds, letter names and letter formations.
• Utilize picture coding to increasing attention to shape, sound, and orientation.
• Apply blending and segmenting strategies to read and spell words accurately.
• Consolidate newly learned words by reading sentences and decodable text.
• Develop and increase vocabulary understanding and comprehension.

How is the training delivered?

The training session is virtual and at the following times live on Zoom:

• Morning: 9:00 am - 11:00 am [EDT]
• Lunch break: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.
• Afternoon: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

Participants will receive a link before the start of the session with details of how to join. Those new to Zoom will need to sign up here: Zoom Free Sign up.

After the training, all participants will receive a Letterland Certificate of Completion (4 hours). As School districts have different requirements, you should check with your district to ensure this will count towards your professional development hours.

What materials do I need?

You will require your Kindergarten Teacher's Guide - Whole Group (2nd Edition) and your Kindergarten Teacher's Guide Small Group (2nd Edition) for this training.
