Grade One Session

In these sessions we provide teachers with a comprehensive overview of Letterland’s instructional delivery.

Overview

Letterland's child-friendly Grade One curriculum introduces teaching strategies for building phonological awareness, blending & segmenting skills and reading fluency.

What does the training include?

The primary emphasis for Grade One Initial is on whole group instruction, but it also includes implementing small group and intervention strands in the classroom.

Instructional Objectives

• Ensure letter names, sounds and handwriting are accurate and automatic.
• Continue phonological awareness development.
• Advance phonics skills through blending and segmenting.
• Apply more challenging spelling patterns and tricky words.
• Develop comprehension through vocabulary building and discussion.
• Foster fluent reading skills.

How is the training delivered?

This training includes a Pre-Work Assignment which will need to be completed prior to the session. The assignment will be sent to participants on receipt of registration.

The training is virtual and at the following times live on Zoom:

• Morning: 9:00 am - 11:00 am [EDT]

• Lunch break: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.

• Afternoon: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

Participants will receive a link before the start of the session with details of how to join. Those new to Zoom will need to sign up here: Zoom Free Sign up.

After the training, all participants will receive a Letterland Certificate of Completion (4 hours). As School districts have different requirements, you should check with your district to ensure this will count towards your professional development hours.

You will require your Grade One Teacher’s Guide for this training.
