The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice and the YWCA-DE Racial and Social Justice Program invite you to Part II of our discussion about reparations, focusing on the harm resulting from slavery in the United States. 

Reparations are the act or process of making amends for a wrong. ACCORDING TO THE UNITED NATIONS: Adequate, effective and prompt reparation is intended to promote justice by redressing gross violations of international human rights law or serious violations of international humanitarian law.

At our November Town Hall on November 15, we heard from a trio of Delaware community activists on a pre-recorded program of the YWCA-DE titled “Let’s Talk About Reparations,” moderated by Becca Cotto, Director of the YWCA-DE’s Racial and Social Justice program. In Part II we will discuss the various ways that reparations might be made. Logan Herring will discuss supporting underserved communities as form a reparations. Dr. Marlene Saunders will discuss how a focus on the public health disparities in the Black community might be considered part of a reparations program. Mr. Lee Baker will speak about how George Washington University, a former slave holding institution, is working on the reparations question. We will also continue the conversation about how to move from conversations to action to make reparations
