Where are the classes held?

Class 1 is at BarCocina Lakeview (2901 N Sheffield Ave).
Classes 2 and 3 are at East Studio — Athenaeum Theatre (2936 N Southport Ave, 3rd Floor).   The fourth event is a social at the Epiphany Center of the Arts (201 s ashland), on 12/10.

How do I find East Studio for Classes 2 and 3?

Enter through the main Southport entrance, go up to the 3rd floor, walk down the hall, turn right, then right again through the single glass door.
East Studio will be on your left, just north of the Music Room.

What level are these classes?

Advanced beginner–friendly and welcoming to intermediates.
You’ll get the most out of it if you can keep a beat, move your feet, and already know the basics.

Do I need a partner?

Nope! Come solo or with friends. We rotate often so everyone gets to dance.

What makes this a “progressive” series?

Each class builds on the previous one — so you’re not relearning the same basics each week. You’ll grow your rhythm, connection, footwork, and confidence in a structured way.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move in.
Shoes with smooth bottoms (no rubbery grip) are ideal.

The actual workshop is a series of 3 classes! On 12/10 we'll be doing a social at the Epiphany that you will get free entry into. The social will start with a beginner friendly dance lesson for everyone, and then go into social dancing where you can practice some of the skills you've learned.

Is this beginner-friendly?

It’s beginner-supportive, but not a total absolute-first-ever-in-your-life beginner class.
If you want a “day one” intro, check out our non-workshop socials — those are super beginner-friendly.

Is this for people who want to dance socially?

YES. The whole point is to help you feel confident on the floor at Salsa on a School Night and other Chicago socials.

You’ll break a light sweat, but this is technique + fun over cardio.

What if I only want to try one class?

This workshop series isn’t built for one-offs.
If you’re just looking to try salsa once, we’ve got plenty of other fun beginner events perfect for that!
