let's design protest posters

let's design protest posters

Overview

a workshop for learning about and creating protest posters

graphic design can be a powerful tool for social change, whether on a national or individual level. in this brief workshop, i’ll share all of the basic things i know, as both an activist designer and a design educator, about what makes an effective protest poster. through a free zine that you can take with you, we’ll talk briefly about messaging, ideas, images, text, context, materials, and more. as we talk, we’ll quickly put those ideas into practice using a range of readily-available materials so you can try your hand at making your own posters for public use. bring a pencil or pen to take notes and sketch ideas.

for those wanting to work more independently, we'll have materials readily available if you'd prefer to just jump in and start making!

workshop facilitated by tyler galloway and ruth collins, the new programme

this workshop will be divided into guided and drop in sessions across the 2 hour workshop span.

guided sessions

participants will be led through the design process of discovery, ideation and production with a workbook zine and short lecture.

drop in sessions

using skills learned from the workshop or from their own knowledge base, participants will be given a space and materials to create their own protest posters. some materials will be provided, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own
