Let's Build a Keepsake Box!

• No prior woodworking experience necessary!
• $150 for the general public, $120 for Clear Creek Makerspace members.
• During this event, Clear Creek Makerspace will be open for participants. Please ring the front doorbell, or come around to the back and knock on the windowed doors.

Learn new skills while building a beautiful hardwood keepsake box. In this hands-on workshop, you will be guided on how to safely use the professional-quality woodshop machines at Clear Creek Makerspace.

Our very first challenge will be to craft custom marquetry for your lid panel, up to 5x8". You will create a simple design and decorate your panel with either hand-cut or CNC laser assisted marquetry!

Step-by-step, you will learn how to veneer your own panels, grain match layout techniques, cut seamless miters for a box, grooves for panels, decorative keys, cutting the lid from an enclosed box, fitting hinges for your lid, as well as sanding and finishing.

Materials and supplies will be provided for you, including a selection of hardwood lumber, veneer, MDF panels, and hardware.

This hands-on course will cover topics such as:

• Handcut and CNC laser marquetry
• How to apply custom veneer to panels
• Selecting and preparing hardwood
• Measuring and cutting miters for the perfect box fit
• Measuring, cutting, and fitting grooves for a precise panel placement
• Gluing and clamping techniques
• Sanding and finishing for a polished look

By the end of the workshop, you will have a wonderful hardwood box for your jewelry, keepsakes, and trinkets :D
