Lei Making Workshop

Blue Zones Project is a community-led well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to a city’s environment, policy, and social networks. Established in 2010, Blue Zones Project is inspired by Dan Buettner, a National Geographic Fellow and New York Times best-selling author who identified five regions of the world—or Blue Zones—with the highest concentration of people living to 100 years or older. Blue Zones Project incorporates Buettner’s findings and works with cities to implement policies and programs that will move a community toward optimal health and well-being. The initiative in Hawaiʻi is currently sponsored by HMSA in eight communities including North Hawaiʻi Island, East Hawaiʻi Island, West Hawaiʻi Island, Central Maui, Koʻolaupoko, Manoa-Makiki-McCully-Mōʻiliʻili, Kapolei-ʻEwa and Wahiawa along with numerous statewide worksites and partnerships. Lei Making Workshop
We invite you to join us for an evening of lei making, downshifting and good conversation while learning the basics to making haku style lei po'o! This event will be hosted by flower and plant enthusiast Malia Heimuli, in partnership with Blue Zones Project and Education Incubator at Hālau 'Īnana. Inspired by the Blue Zone region of Okinawa, where people live longer, healthier lives – we wanted to create the opportunity for individuals to make new connections through learning a shared interest. 
If you have plants or flowers that youʻd like to include in your lei poʻo, please feel free to bring it! Suggestions of plants that work well in lei poʻo: Kī, Kupukupu, ferns, song of India, etc.
Date: Thursday, June 27
Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm
Location: Hālau ʻīnana (2438 South Beretania Street)
Parking: there are about 10 tandem parking spots onsite and then street parking
Limited to 16 participants - RSVP early! 
Cost: $20 per person + tax/fees
