Born in Brunei and raised in Taiwan and Okinawa, Anne embraced music at a young age, traversing various instruments until she discovered the ukulele while teaching music on Maui. She co-founded the Monument Concert Series in Utrecht, Netherlands while pursuing her music degree in composition and piano teaching diploma. In the world of sing song, most ukulele players never need to read notes to accompany themselves singing songs they already know. For those who want to venture further, that is, learn new songs, read and play instrumental parts (such as in an ensemble), compose, arrange music, transpose, etc., being able to read notes (Western notation) will make it so much easier, if not essential.Reading notes for the ukulele can be less challenging if<ul><li>you can already read notes (not on the ukulele) such as for singing or playing another instrument</li><li>you can already read tablature and pluck on the ukulele</li></ul>This workshop introduces new ways to learn to read notes and play on the ukulele through the use of innovative drills and exercises. Fee includes handouts.Scheduled classes (workshops) over four consecutive weeks:Saturdays 1/25 and 2/1, Sunday 2/9, and Saturday 2/15 from 3:30 to 5:00 pmAbout the instructor:Anne Ku wrote her piano teaching diploma thesis on sight reading while earning her music degree in composition at Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands.
