Do I need to know how to skate?

Accepted Answer

No!  There's no skating involved. If you can walk, you can curl!

We also welcome wheelchair participants.  There are many different ways to play.  For individuals with knee/joint difficulty, we have delivery sticks available, so they can deliver a stone while standing, without having to slide.

Question 2

Do I need to be a member of the club to participate in Learn to Curl?

Accepted Answer

No!  Quite the opposite!  Learn to Curl is great for for people who either have NOT curled before, or haven't curled in a long time and need a refresher.  At Learn to Curl, you try the sport, and see if you like it.  We teach you everything you need to know to begin playing league games with us!

Question 3

Do I need a team? Can I come alone?

Accepted Answer

Curling is a social sport. If you come with others, it's a great time with friends and family. If you come alone, it's a wonderful way to meet new people (who also happened to find us and decide that curling would be a fun thing to try!). Your choice!

Question 4

Are there minimum age requirements to attend?

Accepted Answer

There's no minimum age, but age 12 and up is generally best.  You must be able to get enough "push" to slide a 42-pound granite stone on ice.  Some of our curlers have been younger.  We've had league players as young as 11, and we've had event participants slightly younger than that.

Question 5

Can people come watch?

Accepted Answer

YES! Spectators are welcome. Note that it can get pretty chilly if you're sitting still at the rink for a while, so bundle up a bit. If you do get cold, you can usually step out of the rink area and into the main part of the Hub facility to warm up a bit.

Question 6

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Accepted Answer

There is free parking on-site. The BACK lot is closest to the rink door.

Long Island Rail Road service is also nearby, though you will need to take a cab or make other arrangements.  If you have transportation concerns, let us know and we'll do our best to provide suggestions.

Question 7

Are there any COVID requirements?

Accepted Answer

At this time, we do not require proof of COVID-19 vaccination, and we do not require masks to be worn. Individuals may absolutely choose to wear a mask if they would like to do so.
