Learn To Curl - Fall 2018

Established in 2008, the Long Island Curling Club is dedicated to the lifetime/inter-generational sport of curling. The Club supports the recreation of curling, promotes education and fosters competition.Our leagues and events are held at the Long Island Sports Hub, 165 Eileen Way, Syosset, NY.MISSIONOur mission is to:Promote and foster competition in the sport of curling on a local, regional, national and international level;Attract, support and train athletes interested in curling competition on a local, regional, national and international basis;Provide programs designed to educate interested persons about the sport of curling, especially local youths and adults.

<H4>Please join us for one of our Learn to Curl classes! These sessions are a great way to get ready for our upcoming leagues.</H4>
In each 2 1/2-hour session, you will receive formal instruction about the sport, including stone delivery, sweeping, and basic strategy. You will also have the opportunity to play part of a game alongside your classmates.
If you join a full-season league, you’ll get a $25 discount off your league fee by participating in Learn To Curl.
FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
There's no minimum age, but age 12 and up is generally best.  You must be able to get enough "push" to slide a 42-pound granite stone on ice.  Some of our curlers have been younger, though.  Our youngest is 11.
What should I wear?
You will be on the ice for 2 hours. Make sure you wear warm, comfortable clothing that allows you to lunge. Dressing in layers is a good option, as you will start out cold and have periods of time when you will sweat (good sweeping warms you right up). Thin gloves may be helpful - sometimes the brooms get cold. Also, make sure your footwear is thick, flat, gripping sneaker-type shoes – no boots, keds, or uneven soles. It should be as flat as possible - nothing with a heel.  Do not wear scarves or clothes that may drag on the ice. You may want to bring a knee pad, such as those for volleyball. No equipment is necessary. 
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is free parking on-site.  Long Island Rail Road service is also nearby, though you will need to take a cab.  If you have transportation concerns, let us know and we'll do our best to provide suggestions.

What's the refund policy?
Full refund up to 7 days before the event.  If closer than that, let us know and we may refund you at our discretion.
