If you're looking to do business with the government, the first step is to register in System Awards Management (SAM).

The System of Award Management (SAM) is a federal contracting/vendor portal that is primarily utilized for contractor small business search and payment purposes for any federal government goods and services purchased through bid opportunities.

What you will learn:

  • Learn how to classify your industry with the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
  • How to register your business with the federal government in (SAM) and the documents needed.
  • Meet representatives from the SBA and UTRGV APEX Accelerator
  • Network with other participants.

About the Presenter

Marcus Villagran is a Senior Business Advisor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley APEX Accelerator.

The UTRGV APEX Accelerator, formerly the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), provides technical services through training and one-on-one counseling to people interested in obtaining contracts with local, state, and federal government entities. APEX Accelerator also assists companies in obtaining state and federal certifications and understanding the contracting process.

The APEX Accelerator is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.

The U.S. Small Business Administration provides programs and services on a nondiscriminatory basis. Moreover, SBA can make reasonable arrangements for persons with disabilities if requested at least two weeks in advance.
