Learn Basic Irrigation and Ollas

Learn Basic Irrigation and Ollas

LEAF Community GardenFremont, CA
Saturday, May 23  •  10 AM - 12 PM
Overview

Learn how to set up basic irrigation in your raised garden beds. We will also explore the use of ollas as a watering system.

Join us as we work on our latest hugelmound and explore simple irrigation techniques using irrigation lines and ollas to support healthy plant growth. Ollas, unglazed clay pots that have been used for centuries in gardens, help reduce water loss by slowly releasing moisture underground when buried with only their necks exposed.

In this workshop, we will combine two low-tech gardening methods to create a water-efficient, low-maintenance growing system ideal for small spaces or raised beds. You will also learn practical approaches to soil improvement as we discuss hugelkulture, or the process of layering organic materials to create beneficial compost in raised beds.

The address is at the LEAF Community Garden (36501 Niles Blvd, Fremont), not the LEAF Urban Farm!
