LCHRA February 2020 Chapter Meeting: Equity & Diversity - A Practical Approach for Inclusive Climate Shift

Event Summary:

This presentation will dive into successful techniques and strategies organizations can use to identify, engage, and teach from the lenses of our most marginalized communities. We will discuss how to develop and use diverse recruiting initiatives to create organizational infrastructure in support of marginalized identities, pathways to successful partnerships with peer organizations to close gaps in access and understanding, as well as avenues for effective education & training to improve cultural competency of existing staff at all levels.

Speaker Bio:

Erin Waters is an educator and advocate for marginalized communities, with a particular focus on the LGBTQ+ population. After beginning her healthcare career in community clinics, she continues her work in non-profit healthcare for Kaiser Permanente, having served in various roles as a Community Health Navigator, Training Facilitator, and now as an Equity, Inclusion, & Diversity Consultant. She has served on the Board of Portland’s Q Center and is a current Board member at Basic Rights Oregon. Most recently, she was recognized by the Gay & Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest as a 2019 Queer Hero. Erin holds degrees in International Affairs and foreign language from the University of Georgia as and Georgia Perimeter College respectively.
