Unauthorized Practice of Law: Being a Lawyer Does Not Mean You Are Authorized; Not Being a Lawyer Does Not Mean You Are Exempt

The access to justice gap in our society is well-documented, with many community stakeholders seeking innovative ways to connect those in need with legal services. However, these new models are being developed against a backdrop of long-standing professional rules that govern what constitutes the unauthorized practice of law - by lawyers and non-lawyers alike.

As part of its popular Law Over Lunch CLE series, the Carrico Center welcomes Jim McCauley, Legal Ethics Counsel, and Barbara Saunders, Assistant Ethics Counsel, from the Virginia State Bar to present on the parameters of legal practice and supervision laid out in the professional rules, as well as how the Virginia State Bar's regulation of such activities builds upon these rules.

1.5 ethics CLE credits approved.
