The Laser Light Lab is a one hour per week hands-on STEM class for elementary school students that explores light and color. The class takes abstract concepts and makes them concrete and visible to young learners taking advantage of the student’s natural curiosity as they learn the concepts, skills and practices of a scientist. Students will use durable lights, lenses, and mirrors in their light and optics kit which will make teaching and learning the science of reflection, refraction, and color concrete, hands-on and easy to learn! Upon completion of this program, students will accomplish the following next generation science standards (NGSS): Make observations to construct an evidence-based account that objects in darkness can be seen only when illuminated. (1-PS4-2) Plan and conduct investigations to determine the effect of placing objects made with different materials in the path of a beam of light. (1-PS4-3) Some materials allow light to pass through them, others allow only some light through and other block all the light and create a dark shadow on any surface beyond them, where the light cannot reach. Mirrors can be used to redirect a light beam. (1-PS4-3) Develop a model to describe that light reflecting from objects and entering the eye allows objects to be seen. The path that light travels can be traced as straight lines, except at surfaces between different transparent materials (e.g., air and water, air and glass) where the light path bends (MS-PS4-2).Laser Light Course Dates held Tuesdays from 3:30pm - 4:30pm:Mar. 16, 23, 30Apr. 6, 13, 27May 4 and 11* Please let us know if the student will be unable to attend any session!1.	All staff and students will have their temperature checked the moment they enter the HSU Innovation Institute every day. If a temperature of 99.5* or higher is registered, the staff member or student may not enter the facility. You may return once you have been temperature free 24 hours without use of Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (Ibuprofen). 2.	All staff and students will wear PPE (personal protective equipment). Please make sure your student brings a mask with them to each session.3. Students should bring a personalized water bottle to the classes which may be refilled in the drinking fountain. The drinking fountains will be used only for refilling personal water bottles.We take the safety of our staff and students very seriously.
