Thanks for your interest in LAS110: Introduction to OMTech Laser Cutters! This free beginner-friendly course is intended to be an easy introduction to some pretty powerful laser cutters, including our 60W and 130W CO2 machines. As part of the 60-minute course, you'll learn how to operate laser cutters, learn more about what type of materials you can cut and engrave, and ultimately learn best practices for not setting things on fire!

At the end of the course users will have firm knowledge on the following:

  • Basic laser system operations.
  • Retina engrave software.
  • Material hazards and dangers.
  • Effects of material density on laser cutting and engraving.
  • Basic laser safety.


Howdy makers! I’m Alex (he/him) and I’ve been making things for a long time. I first learned about makerspaces in 2018 and instantly fell in love with the concept, and I’ve spent the last seven years working to hone my skills on 3D printers, laser and vinyl cutters, sewing machines, and just about any other tools I can get my hands on. When I'm not making awesome stuff, I'm working as your friendly neighborhood pharmacist. Excited to meet, re-meet, assist, or otherwise interact with you!

Do I need any experience to take this class?

Nope! This class serves as an introduction level class for anybody who wants to learn how to use Omtech Laser Cutters. No prior experience level is required!

Will I be able to use Clear Creek Makerspace's Laser Cutters after taking the class?

Short answer, yes. As long as you have taken SAF101, and are a member at Clear Creek Makerspace, after this class you will be able to use our selection of Omtech Laser Cutters.
