Our route includes the Mile Rock Beach labyrinth, memorials to the Holocaust and the USS San Francisco, the art deco VA Hospital, and Fort Miley’s abandoned coastal defenses.
TOTAL DISTANCE
This is a moderate hike of about four miles round trip. Parts of the trail include steps and steep slopes.

WEATHER POLICY
Rain cancels.
COST
Free; RSVP required.
WHERE TO MEET
We'll assemble at the Lands End Visitor Center.
(If taking Muni to Lands End, it is accessible via the 38 or 38R which starts at the new Transit Center and runs all the way out Geary to 48th Avenue. However, be sure to get on a 38 going all the way to 48th Avenue; some of them only go as far as the V.A. Hospital at 33rd Avenue and turn around there. Riders need to look at the destination on the front of the bus or ask the driver if he/she is going all the way to 48th.)
NOTES
Bring water, snacks, and lunch. Dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. Bring poles if you normally use them. There are restrooms near our meeting area. Questions? Contact Ken Lavin at klavin@greenbelt.org or 415-543-6771 x321.

ABOUT THE LEADER
Gail MacGowan is a native Californian (with forebears who got here in 1852) who grew up in Salinas. She was a professional singer, and recently retired from a career in non-profit fundraising.
Gail has been leading various walks for San Francisco City Guides since 1997, including Lands End and Golden Gate Park West. (She even served as Board Chair of City Guides!) Gail spent the many months of COVID lockdown in a blissful exploration of other areas of the City, from SOMA to Candlestick Point to Lake Merced to Lands End.
