About this event

  • 5 hours

In late May, Rocky's wildlife start to give birth to the season's little ones. By the end of June, the babies are quickly growing and romping around the meadows and tundra. Bird parents are also busy this time of year feeding nestlings. This afternoon program will discuss which animals are found in the park, when their babies are born, and the various behaviors the animals use to keep the vulnerable little ones safe. There will be opportunities to learn how to photograph the young animals, how to stay safe around the wildlife, and techniques for making fun photos of Colorado's wild little ones. Animal sightings may include bighorn sheep, moose, elk, pika, marmots, and a variety of birds.

Who: Participants ages 16 and up. This is a Level II course. Expect short-distance walks throughout the day, primarily on level terrain.

What to Bring:

About your instructor: A full-time photographer and writer, Dawn specializes in photographing and telling stories about wildlife of high latitudes and high altitudes of the Rocky Mountains and Alaska. Animals at these locations love the cold as much as Dawn does, and the views bring peace to an often hectic life as a nature photographer. Dawn travels extensively visiting remote locations, looking for wildlife to tell their story, raising awareness about wildlife habitat conservation, and writing about many of these destinations in magazine articles.
