About this event

  • 2 hours

Join Farm & Wilderness Conservation and VT Department of Environmental Conservation Wetlands Scientist Charlie Hohn for an informative paddle to Lake Ninevah's beloved Wetland. On the south section of the lake lies a 34 acre intermediate fen that is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species including pitcher plants and sundews. Charlie will discuss the work of the Wetlands Bioassessment Program, the importance of wetlands, and take us on a tour.

This event is free and open all ages, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Preregistration is required for all participants and each participant needs to register individually so we can accurately plan how many boats are needed. No dogs or pets please. We may encounter wildlife and it will be best for everyone involed if pets stay at home.

It will likely be buggy (black flies and mosquitos) come prepared with hats, long sleeves and pants, and bug repellent if you wish. Paddle one way from launch to fen is approx 0.6 miles. Parking and launch at F&W's Saltash Mountain Camp, specific directions will be provided after registration. Canoes, lifejackets, paddles all available to borrow, no canoe experience needed. If you choose to bring your own watercraft, please know that it is roughly a 0.2 mile walk from the parking area to the place where we will launch boats with a hill involved. We will not be using the public access boat launch as parking is limited and we don't want to interrupt other boat traffic.

****Participants will need to agree to the terms and conditions of F&W outdoor program waiver, which includes wearing a life jacket at all times while in watercraft.****
