About this event

Join us for Mountain Girl’s Level 1 fly-fishing clinic designed to give you the knowledge and skills needed for a day on the river!

Bozeman’s own Chloe Nostrant, professional fly fish guide, will cover Gear 101 and how to find what you need at your local fly shop, along with lots of hands-on instruction and a casting workshop. We’ll put your new skills to use with some coached fly fishing on the Yellowstone (dependent on river conditions). Lunch on Saturday and refreshments included. Don’t have the gear? We’ve partnered with George Anderson’s Yellowstone Angler for free rentals! All you need is a Montana fishing license and conservation stamp.

Here's a list of what we have planned:

  • Mountain Girl Talk (all things related to fishing, being a woman in the outdoors, and what to expect this weekend).
  • All the technical fly fishing stuff - knots, gear, flies, fly boxes and rods.
  • Casting instruction and practice.
  • Visit a fly shop and learn how to read the board, where to find stuff
  • How to read the water, entomology and fish handling before fishing
  • FISHING (of course) on the Yellowstone River (dependent on weather and river conditions)

Dates: Friday June 28th (6:00 PM-8:30 PM), Saturday, June 29th (10:00 AM-4:00 PM). Saturday lunch included.

**You will need a Montana Fishing license and conservation stamp. You can purchase these online at https://ols.fwp.mt.gov/ OR you can just get them the day of the event at Yellowstone Angler.

Fly rods and basic equipment will be provided. If you have your own equipment, please bring it. It's always good to learn using your own equipment.

Chloe Nostrant grew up in Bozeman and started fly fishing when she was a junior in high school. What started as a fun pastime quickly grew into a lifestyle, then career. She has been with George Anderson's Yellowstone for six years, working her way up from summer help to year-round staff. Chloe enjoys chasing cutthroat in Yellowstone National Park, sharing the streams with the various wildlife and history that fills the Park. Though she loves fishing for trout in the mountains, she has a soft spot for pursuing muskie in both the US and Canada. When she isn’t fly fishing or working in the shop, she can be found upland hunting with her Gordon Setter, skiing, or working on her next writing piece.
