A standing-room-only smash last year, San Francisco’s groundbreaking Kronos Quartet returns for an intimate concert that explores music from all over the world and sounds from all corners of the imagination.
The performance will feature new and recent works written for Kronos' <A HREF="https://soundcloud.com/kronosquartet/sets/kronos-fifty-for-the-future" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Fifty for the Future</A>, an education and legacy project that is commissioning - and distributing for free - the first learning library of contemporary repertoire for string quartet. Participating artists include Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Rhiannon Giddens, Zakir Hussain, and Wu Man, among others.
For more than 40 years, the Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet and their nonprofit – the Kronos Performing Arts Association – have been re-imagining and redefining what a string quartet can be. Kronos has performed thousands of concerts worldwide, commissioned over 900 works, received more than 40 awards, collaborated with many of the world's most accomplished composers and performers, and released over 60 recordings, including soundtracks for such films as Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Dracula, and the AIDS documentary How to Survive a Plague. Kronos’ celebrated career has prompted The New York Times to declare that they have “broken the boundaries of what string quartets do;” and recent performances have been lauded for "remaining as geographically, politically and spiritually feisty as ever” by the Los Angeles Times and for “elevating a concert of music to a spiritual trip through our common humanity” by The Globe and Mail.
