Is learning how to tie knots easy but remembering how to tie them the next day impossible? Do you forget how to tie them the moment you need them? Practice is good, but more importantly, applying them to functional uses helps us remember them. Using them to accomplish something cements it.
Whether it's on a hike, back at camp, or during everyday life, knots and hitches have too many applications to count. We use them for repairs. We use them to tie things down to our vehicles. How about hanging your food in a tree at night? Have you ever struggled to hoist a heavy food bag on the first night of a backpacking trip? You needed some mechanical advantage! Knowing the names of tons of knots (and forgetting how to tie them) doesn't help. However, knowing a few knots well, the most important ones, can make all the difference.
In this class, we focus on a handful of knots and hitches and tie them for practical uses. You'll not only know how to tie them, but you’ll remember how to tie them because you applied them to something real. You will leave this class with a basic foundation of knot tying and feel confident to apply these skills on your hikes as well as around the house.
Minimum Age: 8 years old - the minor(s) and a parent/guardian must all be paid registered participants.
