Get ready for an immersive Kite Building Workshop with Tony Killip , a seasoned professional in kite design and construction. Assisted by the Wings on Strings Kite Club. Here's what you need to know and bring for an enriching experience:


Registration Details:

  • Deadline: Registration closes on April 15.
  • Closure Reason: Early closure is needed for fabric order planning.
  • Fabric Kits: All fabric will be precut. Edge trim will be pre-folded, including trim, ribbon for the fuzzy tail, and premeasured bridle lines.
  • Course Schedule: Three days of self-paced building, starting at 9 am on Tuesday, working till 7 pm. Feel free to adjust your schedule
  • Instructions: After you sign up you will get a detailed email on how to choose your fabric colors and instructional videos.


What to Bring:

  • Sewing Machine: Bring your own if you have one. If not, let us know, and we'll make arrangements for a loaner.
  • Thread: Black or white 100% polyester thread for optimal results.
  • Sewing Accessories: Cutting mat, scissors, rulers, hot cut gun (if available), rotary cutter, ¼ inch wide double-sided seam tape, seam ripper. Edge guide if you have one for your sewing machine.
  • Lighting: Extra lighting if needed for sewing.
  • Marking Tools: Blue tape, magic marker, at least 1 water-soluble white pencil, or white chalk.
  • Drawing and Coloring Tools: Download the kite drawing and instructions. Color up the drawing to plan your kite's design.
  • Personalization: Email or text your colored drawing to Tony, indicating your color choices for various parts of the kite.


Kite Line and Upgrades:

  • Kite Line: Purchase your own 250-pound test line for optimal flying. Contact Rena Rustad at Prairie Wind Kite Company for assistance.
  • Tail Upgrades: Consider enhancing your kite with tube tails, Pennant tails, or other upgrades. Rena, a trusted kite vendor, can guide you in making choices.
