The Cooperative Extension Service is a partnership between state land grant universities, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and county governments throughout the nation. In Leon County, the partnership includes theUniversity of Florida(UF),Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences(IFAS),Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University(FAMU), andLeon County Government.UF/IFAS Extension’s mission is to develop knowledge in agriculture, natural resources, and the life sciences, and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. Leon County Extension conducts research-based educational programs in Agriculture and Food Systems, Horticulture, Family & Consumer Sciences, and 4-H Youth Development.The University of Florida is committed to providing universal access to all of our events. Kitchen to Compost is an engaging, hands-on, educational workshop that empowers you to make nutritious meals while minimizing food waste and transforming kitchen scraps into valuable compost.Alongside tasting vibrant produce you could grow at home, you’ll also craft your own healthy salad dressing, learning how to skip the store-bought bottles and reduce packaging waste.
