For one hour, children participate in short lessons in reading, math and handwriting, providing a gentle introduction to the DaVinci Program.

Children participate in activities and lessons while one parent is present in the classroom to observe the child's engagement and interaction with the teacher and activities.

Kindergarten is a step up from preschool and pre-K, requiring a bit more focus with distinct time periods for academic progress. Participation, following directions and a child's interest and willingness are important aspects of readiness.

Doors open at 10:15 a.m. and close at 10:30 a.m. when the lesson begins. Afterward, teachers and admissions staff are on hand to answer questions and to schedule personal tours for parents during school hours.

Please order your ticket under the name of the parent who will attend with the child. Only one ticket is needed for each parent with child.

Once you sign up, we'll contact you to confirm your RSVP and that the child attending is age 4 or 5. We will also call to get your child's name in advance for a more personalized experience.

Who can attend?

The class is open to one parent and one child age 4 or 5 years old. There is room in the classroom for one parent to stay and observe. Each child works from their own seat, following along in the lessons given by a teacher and her assistant.

What happens during the class?

Teachers will present simple lessons in early reading and math skills, encouraging children to participate. At times the observing parent may be invited to work with their child. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, while still providing structure and an introduction to academics.

How will I know if my child is ready for Kindergarten?

The attending parent can observe their child's interest, engagement, participation and comfort level. Listening skills, understanding instructions, and their attention span for the lesson are all observable factors. After class, teachers can provide additional feedback in brief conversation.

What if I have more questions?

The Kindergarten Readiness class is intended as an introduction. Parents can book a personal tour with Admissions to learn more, ask questions and talk about their child. After the Tour, schedule a Visiting Day. The child spends the day in Level K and parents receive a written readiness evaluation.
