We all do it from time to time.  Everyone overthinks every once in a while. 
But.  
Ovethinking is harmful and when we stay there, we get caught in the downpour of rumination and worry.  It is lingering in this very place of overthinking that keeps us stuck. We are unable to get out of our own heads.  We go over the thoughts and feelings constantly. Examining, probing, reviewing.  And yes, scrutinizing.  Why are we unable to to quiet the constant barrage of negative thoughts?
It affects our mood when we beat ourselves up over a mistake we made three days ago, agonize how we are going to achieve a goal, or obsess over every detail surrounding a decision we made.  We get caught up in the whirlwind of overthinking sometimes without even realizing it. And overthinking can inhibit our growth, interfere with our well-being and ability to function.
